Social Media Message January 14, 2024

It’s me, Cam’s Mom. Today, like many days, I find myself turning to you all, sharing bits and pieces of our story, hoping it might light up someone else’s path, even if just a little. This is where I share from the heart, where we connect over the stories that are often too hard to tell but too important to keep inside.

Our Story

Cameron came back home in May, stepping away from years spent in an abusive relationship, hoping for a fresh start. We—all of us, his family and friends—were full of hope, ready to help him find his happiness and get him on his feet.

But, life took a turn we never expected. Having Cam back home, which we thought was the best decision, ended up being the hardest thing we’ve ever had to face. From May to October, Cam’s life was a rollercoaster. He found himself in another abusive relationship, struggled with drugs, and spent countless nights trying to figure out where things went wrong.

I think he was really embarrassed about everything that was happening. It was like he couldn’t find the words or the right moment to ask for the help he so desperately needed. Walking this path—the path of a mom who’s lost her son—I’ve met so many people who’ve been down similar roads. I’ve realized I’m not alone, and neither are they.

The Importance of Coming Together

This journey has shown me how crucial it is for us to lean on each other. We’ve got to be there to lift each other up, to teach our kids resilience, and to remind one another of the strength we each carry within. It’s about more than just making it through; it’s about coming out stronger, kinder, and more connected on the other side.

Losing Cam has been a nightmare I wouldn’t wish on anyone. And it keeps me up at night, wondering, if he had reached out for help, could things have been different? Is there something, anything, that could have changed his path?

I don’t have all the answers, but what I do have is hope—hope that by starting Cam’s Club, we can offer some solace, some support, to families facing the same battles with spousal abuse, drug addiction, and mental health struggles.

Our Call to Share

It’s not going away on its own, and frankly, I’m desperate to find a way through this, a way to make even a small difference. That’s why I’m here, sharing our story with you, on #Sharing Sunday. Because if there’s one thing I’ve learned, it’s that healing starts with sharing. It starts with opening up, reaching out, and letting in the support and love we all need to get through the toughest of times.

So, if you’ve got a story, a question, or even just a thought, don’t hold back. This journey, this fight—it’s not meant to be walked alone. Let’s share, let’s connect, and let’s find our way through this together.
